It would exist very helpful and courteous to review a recipe made EXACTLY the way it is written. Information technology is not beneficial at all to read how you lot rated your ain recipes using another person'south name. Marie, your recipe made every bit written, is splendid. Thank you!

THIS IS Crawly. Boyfriend and I couldn't believe information technology! I modified the recipe based on other people's comments. Everyone was proverb to add Montreal Steak Seasoning, which I didn't take. And so I looked it up and information technology'due south basically comprised of pepper, salt, and paprica. For the rub i combined one Tbsp each of kosher salt, crushed peppercorns (i crushed), and paprika. I also added about i tsp. of garlic powder. This I rubbed on the meat and sprayed a little olive oil over superlative. To the pot, i added 3 large chopped carrots, half dozen or so small-scale red potatoes (chopped), an onion, and one-half a container of small fresh mushrooms. Additionally, I added ii bay leaves, about a tsp. of worshire sauce, and the onion soup mix along with the water. Didn't have celery. SUPER SPICE-A-RIFIC!!! Savor!

I have cooked a lot of roast in my twenty-four hour period and this is the Just time it has come out perfect! I didn't add whatever vegetables with it except for cutting an onion in half and setting information technology on elevation of the roast for the last 3 hours of cooking fourth dimension. I made mashed potatoes and light-green beans separate, just don't like my potatoes to gustatory modality like annihilation except potatoes. I also whisked 2 teaspoons of cornstarch with 1/2 cup h2o and added to the au jus that I transfered to a sausepan. I boiled the au jus mixture for nigh 5 minutes, whisking frequently, for a wonderful brown gravy. I was tempted to not cook information technology as long as the recipe calls for, merely delight but let it melt and go on bank check on the liquid level. Roast cooked this way just melts in your mouth! Thanks for sharing your talent!

why do people take a recipe and turn it into another totally differtn recipe using it equally a review? Just create a new recipe.

This was fabulous. I took a few reviewers advice and soaked the roast in reddish wine vinegar over dark. I made a rub with pepper, salt, lemon pepper and freshly minced garlic and then browned the roast on all sides. I was using my mother in law's roaster and it didn't have low, med and high then I set it to about 200 degrees for eight.5 hours. I added the onion soup mix, some onion, lots of garlic, carrots, some celery nosotros needed to get rid of and 2 potatoes. Nosotros served information technology with Sky High Yorkshire Pudding (allrecipes.com) which was dandy! We likewise had garlic mashed potatoes and an like shooting fish in a barrel light-green salad. This was an AT recipe and we'll use it again!

Cracking recipe, but I browned the meat on all sides later seasoning the roast with Montreal Steak Seasoning prior to putting information technology in the slow cooker. This added great depth of flavor to the meat and the finished gravy. I omitted the potatoes from the slow cooker, and oven roasted them instead with olive oil, salt/pepper and whole garlic cloves during the last hour of cooking the roast. A crispy contrast to the luscious gravy. My family loved this meal!
12/05/2003
Very, very good--the only thing I did different is added a couple beef bouillon cubes and more water and so that I could make lots of gravy. I fifty-fifty chopped up the left over roast put information technology dorsum in the slow cooker and made a stew with it--it was great! Give thanks y'all Marie!

I followed the recipe exactly and was a flake disappointed. I had high hopes starting out simply the cease result was rather bland. Don't go me wrong, the meat was overnice and tender, the veggies yummy (a little mushy, simply a good mushy), and there was plenty of gravy. Even so it needed season, also searing the meat with salt and pepper didn't practise annihilation for it. What I would do side by side time is sear the meat with Worcestershire, olive oil, and a little butter. Then after I put the meat into the crock-pot with veggies on top of the meat. I would deglaze the pan with a mix of either Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon and beef stock. Then I would pour the liquid with pan drippings into the crock-pot. I'm not sure if I would use the onion soup mix or not, I think that would depend on the users personal preference.

Really enjoyed this, my construction working fiance & his friends practically inhaled this! I did replace the water with beer and added a trivial beef boullion... my gars was overjoyed to notice a new style to get beer into his system and it gave it an amazing flavor! At that place were no leftovers at all.

I used this as a starting bespeak to learning how to make a bully roast. The offset fourth dimension I followed the recipe. The 2nd time I tweaked information technology later on reading the reviews. NOW, I take created a masterpiece. This is how I practice information technology:Brand sure you use a Chuck roast first of all. And so, brownish the meat with salt, pepper, garlic/onion as desired. Then, place in slow cooker. Deglaze the pan with a little beefiness broth and so add it and addtional can to slow cooker (total 2 cans of beef goop). Cascade 1 envelope of dry onion soup mix on top, and i tBLsp of Worceshire sauce on top of the meat. Cook on depression for 8hrs. Later vi hrs. add quartered red potatoes and carrots to the slow cooker. When done it will be falling autonomously so remove from slow cooker carefully. Make gravy by using broth and flour/cornstarch/h2o mixture and heating to but boiling in separate saucepan stirring constantly till desired thickness is acheived. Yum!

To all the reviewers that said "It was delicious, But I modified the recipe by adding this or changing this". Once you change anything most an original recipe, you lot are no longer cooking the recipe but a new recipe that will gustation null similar that one.
09/29/2008
For those of y'all that want a thicker gravy, add flour and onion (for flavour) when you lot are browning the meat. Browning the meat gives it a nice colour and there will be no additional steps at the end for a thicker gravy. I observe that beef broth gives a "tinny" taste. Using craven broth lets the taste of the beef shine through. I use craven broth along with a dainty dry crimson wine. Recall that when adding wine, do not add a wine that is too fruity or has been "oaked" (usually older wines). The long cooking time will concentrate any fruit, oak or other flavors that the wine has. Also when adding vegetables, add them about halfway through the cooking time and Non in the beginning. Delicious!
11/10/2008
Autumn apart TENDER! I've been making this recipe for many years (before this was fifty-fifty added). In that location's no need to brown roast first! No need for the table salt! THE ONION SOUP MIX HAS Enough Table salt IN IT ALONE! Heed- Merely throw the roast in the crock, just place carrots effectually it, (Apply the cut up potatoes for mashed, it just goes much better with the tender roast!)embrace pinnacle of roast with onion soup mix then Peak WITH CREAM OF MUSHROOM SOUP. Yous'll see it's just fantabulous!
04/15/2009
In combination of several suggestions in the reviews, this was just the Virtually DELICIOUS AND TENDER roast I have ever tasted (it was also my get-go time making i)! Here's what I did... I sliced a 2½ lb boneless beef chuck pot roast into 4 large serving pieces. Information technology didn't have much fatty so no trimming was necessary. In a deep dish, I rubbed all sides with steak seasoning, fresh ground black pepper, fibroid kosher salt, and most 2+ tablespoons gear up-to-use minced garlic then poured almost 1+ tablespoon balsamic vinegar and Worcestershire sauce on superlative turning the meat to coat. While that sat, I sliced up a yellow onion then browned the meat on all sides with the onion in actress virgin olive oil. Transferred the meat (including all the juices in the pan) to my dull cooker, added ane cup beef goop, 1+ tablespoon minced garlic, ¼ packet of onion soup mix (leftover from making dip), fresh ground pepper, garlic common salt, oregano, marjoram, thyme, and paprika. Covered and set to low for 6-8 hours. Just about two hours before it was washed, I added whole baby carrots, chunks of celery, red onion, and mushrooms. Instead of adding potatoes, I made mashed potatoes and brown gravy from the juices. The original recipe is a good "base". Only be creative and use your spices!
03/17/2011
I have prepared my pot roasts this style quite a few times at present, and am finally getting effectually to reviewing the recipe! Sometimes I add a teaspoon or two of Amend than Bouillon beef base, a clove or ii of minced garlic, or use beef goop rather than water, merely the basic recipe always remains the same, and always turns out succulent. I had planned on making this today, actually. I bought my beefiness in bulk from a local farmer who raises grass-fed cows for the outset time always, and was so excited to pop my outset grass-fed roast into the crock pot this morning! I defrosted it, unwrapped it, and then realized it was actually a 7-bone chuck roast. Non a boneless chuck roast. I had already defrosted it, and so I went ahead and browned it, so tried to stuff it in my crock pot. No such luck. It wasn't going to fit. So, it sat in my refrigerator in my covered roasting pan "marinating" in the onion soup mix and water all day while I did some research on how to cook a vii-bone roast in the oven. Only in instance anyone wants to use this type of cut, or finds themselves in a similar bind, here's what I did: bake covered at 280 for iv hours, calculation the veggies at the last hour. The outcome was fall-off-the-bone, slice-with-a-fork, cook in your mouth tender and absolutely succulent! Crock pot is good, but this method produced a roast as equally good. The next "variation" I'm going to try is to make my ain onion soup mix from a recipe also here on AllRecipes. Tin't expect!
02/15/2011
Slap-up base of operations recipe! I took the advice of others and browned my meat in olive oil but start I rubbed it with Montreal Steak Seasoning on all sides. I used a 1lb purse of carrots and about 5 red potatoes - skins left on, whole onion - sliced, and 2 stalks of celery. I used 2 cups of water and boiled it on stove with ii beefiness boullion cubes. I added the onion soup mix to the humid beef goop and poured mixture over meat and veggies in crock pot. I besides added nearly one/4C worcestershire sauce. I added some garlice pepper & garlic salt to the crock pot. Cooked on low for 9 hours and meat was falling apart! I removed the roast from the crock pot and cut it up and so added corn starch mixed with common cold water to the crock pot to thicken upwards the juices into a gravy. Everything was perfect!!
06/30/2010
adding my 2 cents! I did change information technology based on other reviews...2 pkgs of o.s.m instead of 1, instead of water I used a half cup of beefiness broth and a half loving cup cooking wine, and I too threw in a tin can of foam of mush. soup....I know the point is to go away from a soup mix (cream soup that is) only I thought it was the best roast that I have ever fabricated!!! Oh one more thing...I omited the potatoes and made mashed instead! I know that people sometimes have something to say about people rating a recipe after they have added thier own tweeks, but isint it what its kind of about?? getting ideas from others and tweeking them to suit our own sense of taste? I d grand...Only maxim give this a try! It is awesome! My veggies were perfectly cooked as directed in the recipe!
12/26/2010
MMM.... MMM.... MMM.... yummy! Yeah that sum'southward it upward. Stop reading all the reviews and just try it... your gonna dearest it.

This is an old standby at my firm. my mother made this many times while I was growing up, and information technology was one of my favorite meals. My husband now loves this pot roast! I don't e'er brown the roast first, depending on how rushed I am that morning time. The last time I made this, I peeled and sliced the potatoes the nighttime before and stored them in a ziplock bag with water. I placed the raw beef, seasonings, and onions in a crockpot liner sealed with a twist tie and popped it in the fridge. The adjacent morning, I only had to untie the crockpot liner and place information technology in the pot. I drained the potatoes and opened a bag of peeled baby carrots to add to the pot. Easy and delicious!
10/27/2007
Used a 3.5lb rump roast instead and it worked out amazingly!! The meat merely fell autonomously and was total of season. I did modify the recipie equally others suggested. Seasoned the beef with ground pepper & garlic salt. Added a tin can of beefiness broth and a few dashes of worcestershire sauce to recipe. I also added mushrooms during last four hours of cooking. At the finish, took out all the veg and thickend the sauce with flour. Used more than potatoes then what recipe chosen for and omitted the celery. Best roast I ever made!! Very tastey.

This is a staple in my house...nosotros Beloved it! I use garlic table salt and pepper, and Lipton Beefy Onion soup mix. I also utilize baby carrots and sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes. I add a can of beef broth to ensure at that place is enough liquid to embrace the meat. Cooks on LOW for ten-12 hrs, and is just perfect! I make "pot roast burritos" with the leftovers...hubby loves those! :) An EASY, no-hassle, tasty pot roast!!! *note - close all of your bedroom doors when you plough on the crock or else your rooms volition odor like pot roast for days...)
10/28/2007
I have been doing pot roast like this for years. The bonus is, make an extra roast at the aforementioned fourth dimension, or use leftover roast and broth left in cooker for beef and noodles, or chop leftover beef and veggies advertizement dorsum to broth, add frozen mixed veggies, chopped cabbage, and a footling V8 juice and y'all have delicious homemade beef vegetable soup!!!!!!!!!
01/21/2010
WOW!!! Let me tell you, I have tried to brand pot roast several times already but I gave upwards because the meat ended up being dry. I used stewing beef, rump roast, and other cuts. Now I know YOU MUST Apply CHUCK ROAST...that'southward what makes this recipe super! I took the communication of other reviewers and rubbed the meat with Montreal Seasoning only I did not chocolate-brown it--simply put it in the crockpot. I also used a can of beef broth instead of h2o. I added vegetables one-half way through and used red potatoes because it'due south non equally starchy as white. My son said the beefiness just melts in your mouth! Tasty, delicious and keen condolement nutrient! I've e'er wanted a expert beef roast/stew recipe and now I have it! Cheers, Marie, for sharing and telling u.s. to use the right cut of beef!

I was feeling a little 50's homey and wanted to feed my family something lumberjack hearty, so pot roast was an easy conclusion. However, never having made it before, I wanted to try this recipe since it promised two important things: moist + juicy. I layered the lesser of the crock pot with babe carrots, halved celery stalks and quartered red potatoes. So, I combined the onion soup mix with i can of beef broth and poured it over all. The 2.5 lb roast was next. I rubbed information technology with minced fresh garlic, pepper and salt, and so gave it a quick sear in olive oil. The roast and then joined the veggies in the crockpot, and the remaining olive oil + pan juices were poured over all. Our dinner cooked for 14 hours on depression, which in the end, would have been amend at 12 hours. Nevertheless, it was delicious! Our veggies weren't mushy at all, the savory onion sense of taste had thoroughly absorbed into everything, and in that location wasn't even a demand to make gravy. Next time though, I'll make the potatoes separately. I idea they took abroad too much of the flavor, and will add lots more carrots + celery, and just a touch of water to end up with more juice at the cease. This tasted much better the 2nd day as leftovers, but the meat hasn't lost any of its fall apartiness that my family loves. Would definitely brand this again with a few tweaks.

My 87 twelvemonth old Dad prefers hot meals for supper even in the summertime. I made this crockpot meal to avoid heating upward the house. Because information technology was only him and me, I only used a ii pound chuck roast. Next time I'g making a bigger one. This was fabulous! Dad raved about it and be both wished we had more leftovers. A very easy but admittedly delicious meal!
02/24/2014
Actually loved the roast. Information technology was tender, juicy and cut with a fork. However, I fabricated a mistake. I used both the dry onion soup mix and vegetable broth. I should have used i or the other. Had I added actress salt, it would have been manner as well salty. Next time I make this, and I admittedly WILL make information technology once more, I'll take care to watch the table salt content. I'd much rather add more to my plate than risk the dish beingness over salty. And I did add actress carrots and potatoes. With a 3 pound chuck roast, I added at to the lowest degree 6 prissy size potatoes and 2 pounds of carrots. It was a terrific meal, served with nice hot biscuits.
12/15/2008
Very tasty roast. Quick notes: i/2 the soup mix, it can make it style too salty (add maple syrup to cut of need be), sear with steak seasoning, de-coat with red vino and add together to the tedious cooker. Worcestershire works well (don't over do it though or you are back to the salty problem). Toss in a bay leaf and y'all are good to get. Take tried this a few times and am constantly tweaking, but follow other suggestions and add together your ain flair and you will exist laughing all the way to the dinner table.
03/22/2011
This was my first pot roast EVER, and it was then easy! I've made it twice, and I've e'er used a roast that was less than 3 lbs. I used beefiness goop instead of water and threw in tons of extra veggies. I as well took the advice of some of the other reviews and added Worcestershire sauce and used a Montreal Steak rub on the meat before browning. I've left this roast to cook for upwardly to 10 hours on low, and it's turned out great both times!
12/xiv/2008
add 1/4 cup red vino, viii oz. mushrooms, 4 cloves garlic, and 14 oz. can beef broth. Thicken gravy with a two oz. brown roux.
10/25/2008
A very good bones boring cooker roast. After reading reviews, I made a few changes...I inserted slivered garlic into roast; browned the roast on all sides, then removed to the slow cooker. I browned an additional onion in the skillet, then deglazed the pan with i loving cup of red wine, instead of adding h2o. I added 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, the soup mix, then poured information technology over the roast. I cooked on high for iv hours, added the veggies, then cooked another four on low. My entire family unit loved it. Next fourth dimension, I'll brownish sliced mushrooms to add to the mix!
12/21/2011
Great simple and tasty recipe!!
07/13/2010
I just have to say; why would anyone ruin a expert tasting dish with that awful onion mix. It'due south and then fake an salty and overpowering.
01/30/2012
This was melt in your oral cavity delicious! I used a two.v lb chuck and allow it become for 9-10 hours. Information technology was falling apart and was perfect! I, like other reviewers used depression sodium beef broth. I fabricated upwardly my own rub and used that before browning it in the pan (Kosher salt, fresh ground pepper, reddish pepper flakes, paprika, and garlic pulverization). I made a gravy from the leavings in the crock pot and that was succulent every bit well (Just the juice/broth with a cornstarch/water mixture -- added some salt and pepper). I also used Yukon Gold potatoes. Those or scarlet potatoes are really best for this kind of thing. They concord together ameliorate than Russet. I just ate some leftovers for tiffin and they were only as good equally last night. Mmmmmmm!
05/05/2013
First-class recipe. I added several cloves of garlic, 2 cups ruby wine instead of 1 cup water, spiced 3.3 lb chuck with Montreal spice earlier browning information technology, added bay leaves, used the onion mix, doubled potatoes and carrots but did non add them until half style through. I also ran out of time so I cooked it for v+ hours on loftier. Anybody loved information technology!
11/27/2013
If its cooked likewise long the veges volition be mushy and the roast will fall autonomously so much it's almost similar soup! Adding the veges half way through leaves a tastier pot roast that isn't mush! great season with the soup bundle!
09/17/2006
Yum - what great comfort food! I used a smaller roast (2.v lbs) so information technology was actually washed in v hours. As the meat rested before carving, I strained the vegetables from the juice and stirred in a slurry of cornstarch on the stovetop. Later on humid a couple of minutes, I had a thick succulent gravy to pour over the meal. I highly recommend serving dinner rolls alongside to sop up the gravy. Definitely a do-over recipe in this house!
ten/28/2008
I fabricated this roast yesterday in my new crock pot and wow it was sooo good. I browned a 3.5 lb chuck roast on the stove in a little extra virgin olive oil and salt and pepper and then slow cooked it with the rest of the ingredients for 5.5 hours on low and it fell autonomously. I used red skinned potatoes which I remember adjacent time I volition put in an hour after everything else. Oh aye, I substituted beefiness broth for the water. With the left over roast I shredded it and added Sweet Infant Rays bbq sauce and my hubby and I had it on hamburger buns tonight for dinner. Thank you for a great recipe Marie!
01/22/2014
I've been using this recipe for years. I'grand a little surprised by the review that said it turned out tasteless. Y'all tin can add your ain touches to suit your taste, as I have from fourth dimension to time but you can't lose with this basic recipe. It has always come up out a winner.
eleven/13/2010
This was my very offset time making a pot roast, and it turned out nifty! I rubbed the chuck roast with Montreal Steak Seasoning and garlic powder and browned it in olive oil, as others had suggested. I cooked information technology on HIGH for v hours, adding the veggies in during the last hour (so they didn't plough to mush). Yummyyyy!!!
03/12/2009
FABULOUS!! Information technology took just xx minutes to prep! The just things I changed were (1) browned the meat before putting it in the crock pot and (2) I used a modest bag of babe carrots instead and (iii) I seasoned the meat with common salt, pepper, & garlic powder before cooking. Information technology cooked from 10am to 7:30pm and it was perfect. Merely as skilful every bit my moms. I besides made this recipe another time and instead of using the onion soup mix I used McCormick's Irksome Cooker Savory Pot Roast Seasoning..came in a pouch like taco seasoning. Just mix with one loving cup water and pour over the meat & veggies. Information technology was good too!!
12/21/2006
This potroast using the irksome cooker is not bad. Earlier I brownish the roast, I unremarkably glaze it with a thin layer of flour. It helps the browning and also adds to the gravy.
12/12/2005
Wonderful, unproblematic comfort food. I used a 3.v lb chuck and pressed Montreal seasoning into the beef prior to browning. I added beefiness stock instead of water, a couple glugs of ruby and white wine (recall french onion soup), and a tin of stewed tomatoes. I omited the potatoes, and served mashed on the side. I made a gravy of a couple cups of the goop. After 10 hours on low this was tender and succulent! Thank y'all!
02/09/2013
This is an absolute FAVORITE pot roast recipe--with a few modifications. The meat is always ridiculously tender, full of season, and tastes amazing! The changes we made are pretty unproblematic-- I utilise 1 or ii cans of beef broth instead of the 1c water (depending on the size of roast, 3.5lbs+ 2 cans, less than 3lbs 1can) I season the meat with either a montreal steak seasoning or some other seasonings we have handy (garlic salt, onion powder, pepper, maybe some paprika, whatsoever) and and then sear in either a pocket-size amount of balsamic vinegar or olive oil. I like lots of vegetables so we double the vegetables and add half at the outset (mushy vegetables as a consequence) but the other half a few hours earlier the end so they are cooked but not mushy (this is why i add the extra goop since i have lots of extra veggies). I have as well used the bulky onion dry soup mix a few times but really couldn't tell much difference between normal onion soup mix--and then i apply any is on manus.
10/13/2008
Very tender and flavorful. So I would not end upwards with mushy veggies I put onions on lesser of cooker, added meat(later browning), soup packet, ane cup h2o and one cup beef broth and cooked that on high for two hours and low for one hour earlier calculation irish potato chunks and baby carrots and cooking on low another three hours. Perfectly tender meat which was non falling apart and sliced nicely and the veggies were soft but not mushy. Also makes delicious gravy.
01/27/2010
Easy, easy, like shooting fish in a barrel! And the meat was so good. I seasoned the meat with Montreal Steak seasoning and dusted with flour (used a chuck roast). Started it cooking in the AM with just the liquid (I added just a little more), soup mix, celery, onion and some garlic. I added the carrots, potatoes a couple hours before it was done. The meat fell apart and had a overnice flavor to it, the veggies were cooked well non mushy and the gravy was so yummy. Super and easy definitely a keeper!
01/18/2009
I've tried this recipe for the first fourth dimension in December and it has become i of my favorite. Taking several advices from other Cooks who reviewed this recipe, I completely substitute water with beefiness broth, add the vegetables about 3/4 the way after the meat, and instead of salt and pepper to gustatory modality the meat, I use a seasoned salt.
09/12/2006
What a bang-up recipe!! I played with it a little bit & used other reviewer's ideas. I rubbed meat tenderizer, garlic powder, grade ground pepper & crushed ruby pepper on it before I browned it. Used a tin of beef broth, package of onion soup mix & beefy onion soup mix, worcestershire sauce, fresh mushrooms, carrots, celery & potatoe. Kept adding a picayune chip of common salt, pepper & crushed ruddy pepper as it cooked. It was autumn apart-melt in your mouth tender with a little kick to it! Everyone loved it.
11/nineteen/2003
Great recipe. For a beefier flavour, I used a cup of canned beefiness broth, instead of the water, and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. This was a cracking dinner. I just threw it in the crockpot around ii, and since my roast was about half the size called for, information technology was done around 7. Cheers for the recipe : )
03/19/2007
This was sooooo good! I did rub the roast with seasonings and a niggling flour before I browned on both sides. I also used 1 cup beef broth and 1/2 cup of water. I fabricated a little gravy out of pan drippings and added at last minute to thicken. Will definitely be cooking this one a lot. Thanks.
03/11/2012
Family really liked it. Seasoned chuck roast with salt, onion powder, garlic pulverisation, mustard and a lilliputian cayenne. Seared in skillet on all sides. Placed in crock pot for 6 hours. Instead of water used chicken broth and added two bay leafs. Didn't add onion or celery because we didn't accept whatever and we didn't miss it. Added my potatoes two hours before it was done, carrots and fresh green beans ane.5 hours before done and then handful of mushrooms 15 min before serving. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Veggies were not mush and had great flavor. Only enough left for hubby next twenty-four hour period and he didn't mind eating information technology at all.
05/07/2007
I made this recipe tonight and information technology was the best roast we accept always had (and then my hubby put information technology):) I read the reviews before cooking information technology and took the communication of some of the cooks. I used beefiness broth instead of water I added garlic and monteral steak seasoning. My roast was just nigh two 1/ii pounds only I let it cook for 11 hours and it was meliorate than ever before. The vegtables were falling autonomously along with the meat. Thank you lot for the recipe and all the inputs likewise.
04/28/2013
I just want to say that yes, you demand to use Chuck Roast, and other than any spices you want to add, all I have ever done to accept a perfect roast is to put the roast in the crockpot WITHOUT browning, and I don't add vegy'south to the pot. This way, you don't need to add whatever liquid. I add the onion soup mix and maybe some extra onions, but that's it. Very basic. I cook it on high for four to 5 hours. DONE! Information technology just falls apart...love information technology, love it, love information technology!
03/22/2010
I browned the roast 1st & and so cooked the onions in the same pot earlier adding to the crockpot. I used beef goop instead of the water & increased it to 2 cups. Absolutely delicious!
03/10/2014
Crawly Marie! I had a half-dozen pound chuck roast so I adjusted the recipe for 12 servings. Used red potatoes, skin on, quartered. Everything was delicious. Had meat left over and so take cut the meat into ane inch cubes. Threw that into the crockpot with a mix of dry onion soup, h2o and foam of mushroom soup. Will throw all that on top of flat egg noodles tonight. Walla, beef stroganoff! Cheers for sharing your recipe. Melt on!
01/22/2003
This was simple to prepare and very good. My ii teens LOVED it. The gravy is more "au jus" then information technology tin be sopped up with staff of life. For leftovers, I shreaded the meat and it was fifty-fifty better. Instead of just using salt and pepper when I browned the meat, I used a season all type of seasoning and the flavor was full and rich. Definately a keeper.
02/18/2009
This was really skillful and I knew it would be. I did add a cup of red wine and a tin of gilded cream of mushroom for thicker gravy only I know it would accept been fine without it.
04/28/2011
delicious! i browned the meat as stated and that made all the difference in the way it came out (as opposed to how i used to slow melt it earlier). thanks for the recipe
09/nineteen/2000
This was the outset fourth dimension I have ever made a roast in the deadening cooker, and it was oh-so-easy! And, information technology was very good! I used baby carrots and new potatoes (quartered)and information technology was ready to go in just a few minutes! My four year old daughter loved it!
11/20/2013
This is the recipe from the Lipton soup mix box. Has been at that place forever! I don't like the style the veggies are overcooked in this recipe. It is proficient but in that location are better. Good for novice cooks.

I've used this recipe many, many times, but accept made several changes to it. I like to coat a couple of sides of the roast with Grillmates steak seasoning (very peppery and has salt), and I also splash some worcestershire sauce on it the night before and stick information technology in the fridge. The next morning time, I sear the sides on the pan (with a lilliputian olive oil). I also apply beef broth (or craven broth, whichever I happen to have at domicile) instead of h2o. I besides use small ruddy potatoes and put them in whole. I cut all of my veggies in large chunks (onion is quartered, carrots in large chunks, etc.) For herbs/seasoning, I besides add some thyme and rosemary and four-6 cloves of minced garlic. Delicious!

Followed the recipe as shown....just like my mom used to brand information technology :)

I made this for dinner this past Sun. It was extremely piece of cake and the meat was melt in your oral fissure moist. I felt nonetheless that information technology lacked some season. I think next time I will add some worcestershire sauce to information technology. I will definitely make this again though, thanks.

This was wonderful pot roast! I used the Montreal Steak Seasoning and browned the meat ahead of time, and male child was that tasty! It added and then much flavor. And I think browning the meat ahead of time seals in some of the wet and then that the roast is extra moist. I also used a tin can of beef broth instead of water. Yum!

I impressed my parents with this one. We all loved information technology - very moist and tender - not overcooked. Information technology was good for leftovers as well. I take a smaller, older crock pot, so I had to cut the roast (nigh 4 lbs.) into 2 chunks, then pile the veggies around it. After the first meal, I cut upward more than veggies and irksome-cooked them in the leftover juice so that I would accept plenty to get with the rest of the roast - fantabulous leftovers. Besides, once yous refrigerate, the next day you can skim off the congealed fat to reduce fat content. I liked the recipe as an piece of cake and tasty mode to become some nutritional veggies and fiber - carrots, onions and celery.

Simply fabled!

Piece of cake and extremely delicious! I added extra carrots and potatoes as I have a large slow cooker. My married man loved this dish.

Followed the recipe with one exception. Before browning roast, I tied it. It cooked great and after removing cording, sliced and plattered the meat and vegs. Served with buttered noodles for those who wanted them and also had mixed green Salad.

This was incredibly delicious. I used a 3-pound chuck roast (which was fatter than I expected) and browned it on all sides. Later I put the roast in the slow cooker, I looked at the $.25 in the pan and decided to deglaze it with a footling (maybe three-four Tbsp) balsamic vinegar. Side by side I poked 4 peeled and smashed garlic cloves in the roast and poured the thickened balsamic on it. Then I put a large sliced white onion on height and sprinkled the onion soup mix over that. Finally, I poured the h2o over everything and put it in the refrigerator. Effectually midnight, I took information technology out of the fridge and put it in the cooker on depression. When I woke upward at vii, I added 3/4 pound of infant carrots and another large white onion (sliced). Afterwards near some other hour, I noticed the roast was falling apart, so I took it out and covered it with foil while everything else cooked some other ii hours. Then I drained off the liquid and let it split up (because my roast was so fatty). I skimmed off as much of the fat and put the roast, carrots, and onions back in the pot, followed by the skimmed liquid and left it on warm until it was ready to serve. The roast was fork tender and full of flavor. I served it with rice, carrots, and onions. I look frontward to eating the leftovers. I volition make this again! Cheers for sharing, Marie.

This was excellent.Commencement pot roast I've ever made, chose a marbley chuck roast as directed. Replaced the water with the beefiness broth. I also added garlic and a little extra onion soup for fear it wouldn't have enough flavor, but I didn't need all that, the original recipe would accept been totally fine. I think next time i'll merely make it as is with diluted beefiness broth. I alive alone and so making big things like this, I need to exist sure I can eat it. And I did! Vegetables were perfectly done and yummy every bit well!
04/25/2014
Extremely Like shooting fish in a barrel and delicious I followed Lyrica42 recommendations and served up with some fresh sourdough bread - perfect comfort food
11/16/2013
I've fabricated this recipe a dozen times or more than. It's perfect equally is. No need to change anything!
03/31/2014
I fabricated this and used beefiness broth instead of the water and no celery because I didn't accept any. It was he all-time roast I accept ever made. My husband agreed and the kids ate information technology up and had 2nd and 3rds. "Mom, this is the best dinner e'er."
03/xviii/2014
I cooked the pot roast without the potatoes and carrots. I did put in the onion and took a few garlic cloves and put them in the roast. It is the best I have ever fabricated!
06/15/2011
Delicious! I rubbed the roast with ocean salt, cracked pepper, marjoram, thyme and paprika, and so dusted with flour before browning. Also, used almost twice the amount of potatoes and carrots and added a niggling more water and 3 cloves of garlic. Just needed to add a fiddling salt. Might use a vegetable stock base adjacent time.
11/02/2008
I made this for dinner tonight and got rave reviews from my husband and stride son! The roast was tender and moist. I didn't use the onion soup, but used beef bouillon dissolved in h2o instead. Browned in skillet w/a tad salary grease black pepper, sea salt, onion powder before putting in deadening cooker. Used the aluminum foil balls to back up the roast in cooker. I used the juice from the roast to make gravy; cooked potatoes, carrots and celery stalks at the end of the cooking time for the roast. Yummmmmmm Yummmmmmm!
03/14/2010
YUM! I used this recipe for my first pot roast always, and it was delish!! I added the potatoes halfway through cooking, per other reviewers' advice. Also used i can of beefiness broth and a petty garlic; otherwise, I made the recipe as is. I cooked it on high for about 6 hours and it was perfect! And i tip* I used the crockpot liner bags that you purchase in the grocery store nigh the ziplock baggies, and it made clean up SO much easier! Didn't modify the gustatory modality or compromise the flavor a bit! I will be making this recipe for years to come up.
ten/17/2013
This recipe was very easy to follow and it turned out great. I didn't take 8 hours so I put it on high for 6 hours and it was delish. I'yard sure it would have been very skilful at eight to 10 on the low setting. I didn't chop up the carrots or onion. I only made large huge chunks because I was afraid they would exist mushy if I cut them to small they turned out amazing. I put whole cherry potatoes on the top of all of it and they were only wonderful too. I will CERTAINLY practise this recipe again. Information technology'south easy to make and has merely a few basic ingredients which was a big plus. I don't like having to go to the grocery to purchase some expensive condiment or spice that I will never apply once more. Cheers for a wonderful repast.
01/twenty/2015
So tasty! Turns out perfect every time! I like using red potatoes instead of russet, and those don't become overcooked. Or sometimes I just leave the potatoes out and make mashed potatoes instead. But use half a packet of the mix. 1 is also much! I employ beef broth instead of water if I take information technology, I like it much more than that way. Don't use goop and a whole bundle- it will be mode too salty!
02/sixteen/2014
Delicious!
02/07/2009
No need to brown the roast (I have done it both ways). I used my medium size crock pot westward/ a 3# boneless Chuck Roast, rubbed it with (Red Robin Seasoning &) sprinkled w/ Salt & Pepper. Put 1/2 packet of Onion Soup Mix on it, poured 1 cup hot water, added iii lg potatoes & as many babe carrots I could still assuasive one-2" clearance from top of crock as it is IMPORTANT you don't overfill your crock pot for proper cooking. (Makers' suggest on filling it 75% full.) I cooked on Loftier for 5.5 hours then turned information technology down to Low for the last two hours.... ~Wonderful Aroma ....TO DIE FOR!! 2ND-Fourth dimension-NOTES: Used Beef Broth instead of water (nearly 2 cups), did not brownish roast, used bag of fingerling potatoes & cooked on LOW for x one/2 Hours. YUMMY!
04/22/2014
Followed the recipe but did use Montreal Steak Seasoning & added ii cloves of garlic. Information technology was very practiced just seemed to exist missing something to requite it a trivial more than flavour. Will utilize this over again. Thanks!
12/17/2008
My starting time pot roast! It came out a little tough i cooked on high for 4hrs, my mom-in-constabulary says if on high i should have cooked for 3hrs but overall the taste was very good, everyone ate information technology all. give thanks you lot for a bully recipe, def will make over again.
09/24/2013
This is a great recipe! With a few modifications of course. I like to braise my roast in some olive oil. I had a 3.5lb roast. I added two cups of beef broth to the mix (I love the "Ameliorate than Bouillon" brand, just I think the secret to the liquid is that I likewise similar to add a tin of beer to it. Any beer in the refrigerator, doesn't really thing. I personally only used a Bud Light. As per other reviewers, I added my potatoes, onion and carrots in at the half way signal and saw no use cutting upwards the carrots as they're small enough and easily melt in the fourth dimension that'southward left.

This is pretty much the way I have always fabricated pot roast. Only departure is that I don't always brown information technology beginning. But I do put common salt, pepper and flour all over the roast. This manner, information technology makes it's own gravy and is never lumpy. I utilise different seasonings - depending what I have on hand. I have used steak seasoning, seasoned salt, garlic salt, etc. They all work fine and are a thing of taste. I utilise beef broth and bulky onion soup. For veggies I employ potatoes (for average size potatoes, I quarter them, for large potatoes I cut them into six or seven pieces), two average size onions quartered and carrots (baby or regular). I use lots of potatoes considering DH and sons love them this style. This along with some rolls is one of our favorite dinners. I cook on low in the crock pot for almost ten hours while I am at work. The house smells sooooo gooooood when nosotros come home!
09/29/2010
I gave this 4 stars because I made some changes. First, I but used a 2 lb roast. I followed the advice of others and rubbed Montreal Steak Seasoning on it and browned it in a cast iron skillet. I likewise substituted i loving cup beef broth for the water. When I came home from work, the house smelled incredible! Baked some crescent rolls and DH and were in heaven!

I've made this pot roast 2 Sundays in a row. And I will probably continue making it every Sun. SO, SO, Skilful. I used a boneless chuck roast. Vegetables and meat done to perfection. So easy, and tasted so great. Give thanks y'all for a nifty recipe that I will use again and again.
05/xix/2011
Tasty and tender. I seasoned with lots of Montreal Seasoning but I didn't think information technology was necessary to use beef broth as some suggested, so I used 3/4 c. water and ane/4 c. cherry vino, and I will do the same next fourth dimension. I left the peel on my small scarlet whole potatoes and cut the carrots into largish chunks, and they were just right after cooking all day on low. I did get out out the celery and next fourth dimension will add more than carrots. Thanks!
10/24/2013
I didn't get to attempt this merely my boyfriend RAVED well-nigh information technology. He said it was the best meal I take fabricated- which saddens me slightly since information technology was so easy to fix. I took a few other comment'due south suggestions and added some Worchestire- and also browned the meat with garlic powder, McCormick steak seasoning, salt and pepper. Then threw everything into the crockpot and allow information technology melt for the viii hours. Overall rating (from the boyfriend)= Astonishing. Definitely a keeper.
02/nineteen/2014
acceptable.
ten/18/2011
So yummy! The meat falls apart just like a perfec pot roast should. I followed other'south communication and used Montreal Steak seasoning and am glad I did. I besides subbed beef broth for the water. There is enough juice in the pot afterwards cooking to make gravy. Not bad recipe!
eleven/17/2010
Mine turned out great. The simply reason I requite 4 stars is considering I changed it slightly. Instead of water I used beef goop, and I added a larger diverseness of veggies. I took a little of the broth when it was washed and mixed in a little flour to make gravy. The roast was fall autonomously perfect and the gravy was awesome. I will make it again with those minor changes.
ten/02/2011
Instead of the onion soup mix, I added i tbsp Worcestershire sauce to the broth and inserted 1 bay leafage into the roast, discarding the bay leaf before serving the roast. IMHO, the roast was even better- without those pesky onion $.25 from the soup mix in the goop.
08/27/2013
Volition try this recipe this week! If the meat is bland, attempt using a pocketknife to make holes all over the roast and stuff with a whole clove of garlic in each forth with salt, pepper and any other dry seasoning you may like. trust me the garlic gives keen flavour!
x/17/2010
I loved the flavor of this pot roast! I followed the recipe completely other than using beef broth instead of h2o to be able to make delicious gravy at the finish. I felt that 8 hours was the perfect fourth dimension for this. Others have said to await to add the vegtables until one-half way through, but I don't think they would have been as practiced if I would have done that. I used whole baby carrots, onions cut into fourths, and largely cubed russet potatoes. I thought they were the perfect texture with having simmered the entire time. Just a very lilliputian crunch but soft plenty to melt in your mouth. I'd recommend adding them at the beginning if you like your veggies soft!
01/18/2008
FABULOUS!!! I doctored this up a flake by calculation 4 cloves of chopped garlic to the slow cooker after the meat, veggies and soup mix were in. I also used salt, pepper and season-all on the meat when I browned it in the skillet. I take a v quart slow cooker and used 5 pounds of chuck roast, 6 minor/medium cerise potatoes, a small pocketbook of baby carrots, 3 celery stalks, about a 1/2 loving cup chopped onions and the garlic, . My wearisome cooker was Total! I retrieve the onion soup mix is what makes this sooooo good! I let is melt on low for viii hours, merely opened the deadening cooker lid twice - and information technology came out FABULOUS!!! My family LOVED information technology and my married man fifty-fifty said this is improve than any he's had in a restaurant earlier. This is my new favorite wearisome cooker recipe and will be made many more times!! :)
09/19/2008
THE BEST EVER!!!!!! The meat was so ridiculously tender!!! It literally melted in your mouth! I did marinate my meat overnight(in italian dressing) and I also took the communication of previous reviewers with a few other changes: dissolve ii beefiness boullion cubes in the h2o before adding it in (you could use one can of beef broth for the aforementioned result), and add 3 cloves of garlic, chopped besides. I likewise added 1 tsp cayenne pepper to give information technology some kicking. When it was done, I could barely keep my boyfriend out of the pot long enough to actually serve it up! Oh I can't say plenty about this roast- it was THAT good! I volition be reusing this recipe many many more times. Thanks sooo much Marie!
11/02/2008
Exactly what y'all call up of when you think of pot roast. Simply perfect! I lightly floured mine so browned information technology - this fashion it made its own gravy; no need to thicken the juices.
05/23/2010
Didn't need Whatever liquid in my wearisome cooker for perfection. Cooked nine hours and had enough of liquid when done. Don't add carrots or potatoes until concluding hour or they'll go mushy. I like turnips done this way.
01/13/2010
This was fantastic! Based on the other reviews, dipped the meat in a flour and season mixture before browning. 1 affair I similar about the recipe is that information technology is a everything simply the kitchen sink as far as seasoning goes. Whatever I had, I threw in to the flour mixture. I assembled everything the night before and threw it in the fridge. I cooked on high for an 60 minutes as presently as I got up in the morning and and so switched it to low and cooked from viii-vi. The meat and vegetables were out of this world. The potatoes were soft only not mushy only next time, I might omit them and serve over mashed potatoes. Will definitely make again.
